Pastures New (Part Two)

Again?

Yep. After nearly 10 years, with just over three in my second stint, today I handed in my notice and will leave Plusnet at the end of February. Although I’m one of a few long in the tooth Plusnetters to move on recently, it’s certainly nothing sinister. I’ve simply decided that a change is as good as a rest, and an opportunity for an interesting new challenge in a much smaller business than BT is something I found it hard to say no to.

Winner

My football team may be pants, but at least one element of my sporting life is going to plan…

A comment in another thread…

Reminded me of more interesting times, customer service wise, at PlusNet. I don’t think we make customers this angry these days.

Me Under Threat!

Credos to Mr Grice for capturing the true nature of this incident involving a particularly angry PlusNet customer who turned up at the office after being unable to connect to the Internet for over a week.

A new post for my blog

Because without one, the world will remain dull.

Still, isn’t it funny how other people’s blogs are always more interesting than your own. Unless you are Seth Godin.

What do you want to know about?

Origins of the surname Wild

I do occasionally get asked about my name, which I don’t share with either of my parents (Who are Kingston and Lecorney).

The best thing to do if you are interested is read this article from The Guardian.

That said, I never lived in a commune and was born into relatively normal family life by the time my parents had settled in Sheffield (they met in a commune called Radtec - Radical Technology, but had brought their own run-down house in Heeley by the time I was born).

I am very proud of being a Wild for many reasons, and certainly very grateful to my parents for the discussion point.

It Flooded!

So, the floods came, saw and made us all wet.

I didn’t have my nice shiny N95 then (it arrived the day after!), so I couldn’t take any quality videos. As I was on the bike though, I had a good ride up the Don to see the devastation.

This is a short video I took of the bridge under Corporation Street.

And a great thread + scary pictures on the PlusNet Community Site forums.

We’re all going on a summer holiday

That’s right - It’s that time of year again.

I’m off for a week of sailing in Norfolk. This is the second year we will be going with Hunter’s, who’s boats are unmodified designs from the 1930s.

Note to burglers and the sort: Please don’t burgle my house while I am gone.

There is a live webcam of a part of the rivers I will be sailing on below and to your left. If you watch the image all week there is a minute chance we may tack into view.

Thankyou.

My New Blog

I’ve finally succumbed and installed wordpress to replace the horrible page I used to have on ianwild.com.

The old page came from my PlusNet training course, back in 2000, and I’ve never bothered since then.

I decided on Wordpress to power the site as it appeared to be a no brainer given that I’ve got no eye for design whatsoever and it pretty much looks fantastic out of the box. I wonder what tools will be available in another 7 years - I wrote the last one in notepad.

It looked like this:

My Old Website

Wordpress took me an hour to install, and it’s about a million times better. I love how things have changed. Now any old muppet can have a quality looking site like the one before you today.
